Firstly, it's important to note that the $4,000 is the maximum possible credit you can receive - the credit is technically defined as 30% of the sale price up to a maximum of $4,000. So, if the used EV you purchase is less than $12,000 total, the credit value may be less than $4,000. To qualify as an individual purchaser, you must; be the individual buying the vehicle for personal use and not resale, not be the original owner, not be claimed as a dependant on one's tax return, not have claimed another Used Clean Vehicle Credit in the 3 years prior to the purchase date, as well as fall within the defined gross income categories as defined by the IRS. There are another set of restrictions on the vehicle to determine eligibility. These restrictions are as such; the vehicle must have a sale price of $25,000 or less which includes costs or fees besides those required by law, the vehicle must have a model year at least 2 years earlier than the calendar year in which you buy it, the vehicle must have a gross weight of less than 14,000 pounds, the vehicle must be an eligible FCV or plug-in EV with battery capacity of 7 kilowatt hours, the vehicle must be for use primarily in the United States. These restrictions seem lengthy, but in reality the majority of 2023 EV models that Hanna Imports offer will satisfy these requirements, meaning buying a used 2023 EV from Hanna Imports is a lock to qualify for up to $4,000 in tax credit!
